ELSD (external or built-in) detection problem
What should you do if you encounter a detection problem with the ELSD?
This detection problem can be caused by one of 4 causes; these can be resolved by some simple manipulations.
You have an external ELSD:
A/ The split valve tubing may be pinched:
Check whether the liquid flows at the split valve's ELSD output; if there is no flow, replace the tubing
B/ The external ELSD grommet may be blocked:
Check whether there is any liquid flow at the grommet outlet.
If blocked, unblock with a needle or paper clip.
You have an external or built-in ELSD:
C/ The nebulizer may be blocked:
See the ELSD manual (Troubleshooting section) to unblock the nebulizer:
Clean the nebulizer in a sonicator bath, using a suitable solvent.
If the cleaning is ineffective, connect the nebulizer to a pump outlet (min. flow rate 2.5 ml/min.) using the injection port connector.
D/ The sample is too volatile:
Lowering the temperature should resolve this problem.
