Differences between SPE and HPLC?

SPE is a separative technique based on the same principles as chromatography.
HPLC applies to samples whose analytes possess "similar" structures, whereas SPE applies to (non-purified) samples whose analytes are of different polarity.
Contrary to HPLC, which follows a continuous separation process (the stationary phase is constantly in contact with the eluent), SPE follows a discontinuous separation process (different process steps).
SPE is an HPLC using a "step gradient" mode.
