Bluo-Gal is used to detect the b-galactosidase enzyme. It produces a blue insoluble precipitate. It is used notably in histochemistry detections and blotting. It is also used with IPTG (UP84853) to distinguish recombinant plasmids of detect fusion proteins that are tagged with the coding lac z gene coding for the b-galactosidase enzyme.
