This reagent would fit inside a cylinder about 0.6 nm in diameter and 1nm in length (Akabas 1992).

The use of charged alkylthiosulfonate reagents when combined with site-specific introduction of cysteines can provide information about the structure and function of ion channels(SCAM method) and transports proteins, as well as enzymes and receptors.

Exists as a biotinylated probe(UPR5752), and as (trimethyl-ammonium)ethyl (MTSET U0351) and sulfonatethyl (MTSES U0350) derivatives
