Why use the APCI in Flash chromatography?
The main advantage of the APCI is that it allows the use of non-polar solvents, by contract to the ESI. The APCI is thus well-suited to the normal phase. In reverse phase, however, we generally recommend using the ESI.
Reasons for using the APCI in Flash chromatography:
- The APCI is generally better than the ESI for detecting neutral compounds.
- The resulting APCI spectra are frequently simpler than the corresponding ESI spectra.
- Generally, the APCI operating conditions are simpler than for ESI.
- The APCI is less dependent upon ionised solvents that combine with the gas phase.
- Easier to analyse matrix.
- APCI mode can accept a higher sample concentration than ESI.
